  • Auf Deutsch

    ,

I completely forgot to say anything about it here, but I went to Boston for MIT Splash this year. Boston was a really nice city (very walkable!), and I loved MIT’s campus. Along with the fact that their aerospace program is one of the best, that cements MIT as my top pick for my undergrad…

  • Hungerford Algebra

    ,

I recently found Hungerford’s Algebra on Springer Link (I have a SUNet ID through OHS, which gives me access to Springer Link, JSTOR, ScienceDirect, etc.) It’s finals season at OHS right now, but I look forward to reading it over break.

  • Monaspace

    , , ,

GitHub Next recently unveiled Monaspace, a ‘superfamily’ of monospace fonts for code. It comes with five fonts. These are my very uninformed first impressions of them, along with their description from the website: The fonts have three variables: font size, weight, and width. I’ve found lots of great materials on MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW), but it can sometimes be annoying to manage them all. So I created ocw-server, written in TypeScript with Deno. It allows you to download OCW content and start a server that serves all of it.

  • Firefox: Inline PDFs

    ,

I highly recommend setting browser.download.open_pdf_attachments_inline to true in about:config if you use Firefox. When opening PDFs, it displays the file instead of downloading by default. It’s made my day much less frustrating.

  • deywós

I noticed that the Latin word deus and the Telugu word దేవుడు (dēvuḍu) sounded sort of similar. I wondered if they were somehow related, since even though Telugu is Dravidian, it does take a lot of influence from Sanskrit, which, along with Latin, is Indo-European. It turns out that they’re related. Proto-Indo-European has the word…

  • Nikon Small World 2023

The Nikon Small World microphotography contest is full of great photos. My personal favorites, in no particular order, are: Venomous fangs of a small tarantula: Sphagnum moss with two air bubbles on the sample: Carpenter bee (Xylocopa violacea) head and antenna:

  • Dark Mode Fixed!

For a while, dark mode on my site wasn’t working that well. Turns out that WordPress was, for some reason, using !important on one of the background color rules. I was able to fix it with some CSS:
